Know the Value of Your Trees
Everyone knows that trees have value. For most of us it relates to the summer shade that we enjoy. Trees benefit us in several different ways and a dollar value can be placed on those benefits?
To determine the value of the tree or trees on your property, go to the National Tree Benefit Calculator. www.Treebenefits.com/calculator.
Once on the site, you enter your zip code. Next, select your tree species, the trees diameter and select a land-use type.
After entering this information, the calculator does all the work. It will tell you, for example, that a 24-inch diameter Green ash, may have provided $239 dollars in benefits each year. A pie graph will show you a complete breakdown of 6 primary benefits. Those benefits being: Storm water retention, Air quality, Increase in property value, CO2
sequestration, Electrical savings, and Gas savings. It’s a shame we have lost so many of those valuable landscape trees to the Emerald Ash Borer!
You can also use the calculator to do hypotheticals. See what value your trees provide and discover what you can plant to enhance your landscapes value down the road.
