Our Mission: To leave a green and beautiful legacy for Dubuque by engaging our community in tree planting, tree care, education and advocacy.

History

The seeds for Dubuque Trees Forever were planted in 2016 when Laura Roussell met with City of Dubuque Leisure Services Manager, Marie Ware. Both had a desire for a local tree group, similar to the ones in many other Iowa communities. Since Laura had worked closely with the Black Hills Energy Power of Trees program for many years, she was excited to organize the group here in Dubuque. She placed an ad in the newspaper in January 2017 and invited anyone interested in trees to come to an organizational meeting. We had over 40 people at that initial meeting. Laura was named Executive Director in August, 2023. Over the years, we've had hundreds of hours of volunteer service in planting and caring for trees and in education and advocacy events. We welcome people of all ages to join us in leaving a green and beautiful legacy for our community.

  • Laura Roussell, Executive Director

Laura serves as our volunteer Executive Director. She founded Dubuque Trees Forever in 2017 after working with many local tree groups across the state in her role as Senior Community Affairs Manager for Black Hills Energy. He has 38 years of forestry activity and knows the importance of replenishing the urban forest. He recently retired from the City of Dubuque and now serves as our President. This allows him to stay involved as we continue to beautify the city by working with our volunteers.
