Fall Tree Maintenance

Fall is officially here and our attention will once again shift to tree planting and preparing our landscapes for the winter.

Woody landscape plants need to go into the winter well hydrated with plenty of reserve soil moisture.

This is especially important for evergreen trees and shrubs subject to winter burn.

Here are a few watering tips. Water newly planted trees with 5 gallons of water every 3-4 days. This is only a rule of thumb, of course. Too much water can be as bad for the tree as not enough!

Most established trees and shrubs will benefit from periodic, but infrequent deep watering. Be sure to maintain the woodchip mulch around your trees and shrubs to conserve moisture and prevent root damage from freeze-thaw cycles.
